Two epidemics developed on the Oregon Trail between 1844 and 1852. A severe form of diarrhea known as dysentery took its toll on pioneers making their way to Oregon in 1844 and remained an Oregon Trail problem until the arrival of Asiatic cholera in 1849. From 1849 to 1852, Asiatic cholera turned Platte River flood plain into an epidemic region.
That my beloved companions could drown or get yellow fever was wacky to me.
